Night of Lights 2018

First Wednesday of August

The Night of Lights is held every year on the first Wednesday of August. Traditionally it originated in 1926, and attracts many visitors each year. As dusk falls, a large part of Bergen will be illuminated by thousands of lights. That's because the residents of Bergen have been busy with hanging up lights, lanterns and little jars with lights. Hundreds of houses, shops, cafes and gardens are lit by candles, tea lights, lanterns and electric lights. Some lights even form a work of art, or a true sight like the colored fountain of the fire department near Hertenkamp! The streets around the town center are closed to cars, so that everyone can peacefully enjoy a fairy tale like atmosphere.
