Evening of Lights in Bergen 2025

Every first Wednesday of August, the centre of the artist village Bergen in North Holland transforms into a fairytale light spectacle. Evening of Lights, a beloved tradition since 1926, is an evening full of magic, atmosphere and creativity you won’t want to miss.

What can you expect during the Evening of Lights in Bergen?

• Enchanting Lighting: As twilight sets in, the streetlights are turned off and thousands of candles, lanterns and lights appear. Residents and local businesses lovingly decorate their homes and gardens to create a magical ambience.
• Light Art & Performances: Be amazed by mesmerising light art from local artists. Enjoy live performances, including an atmospheric concert by the Bergen Harmony Orchestra at the iconic Ruïnekerk.
• Unique Activities: Play a round of Glow in the Dark Mini Golf or admire the participants in the best-decorated house contest – a creative competition with a great prize for the winner!
• Open Shops and Cosy Terraces: Shops will be open especially until 23:00 for a late evening of shopping, while the cosy terraces treat you to delicious food and drinks under the starry sky until midnight.

• Time: From nightfall.
• Location: Centre of Bergen, including around the Ruïnekerk, Karel de Grotelaan, Middenpad, St. Antoniusstraat and Molenstraat.
• Admission: Free of charge.
• Accessibility: The centre is car-free from 19:00. Please come by bike or public transport where possible; parking space is limited.
