Bergerbos - Nature

A fairytale forest just outside the artists' village of Bergen. This centuries-old forest dates from the 17th century and combines natural beauty with cultural history. It is a perfect destination for walkers, nature lovers, photographers and holidaymakers who want to escape the crowds for a while.
Why a visit to the Bergerbos is worthwhile
- Centuries-Old Trees and Stately Avenues: Walk among impressive oaks and beeches that are hundreds of years old. The avenues with sightlines and old trees give the forest a stylish, almost aristocratic look.
- Fairytale West Corner: In the western part of the forest you will find a dune-like landscape with low oaks, mosses and small patches of heath. The green cushions of white moss give this area a magical touch.
- The enchanting Sparrenlaan: This famous avenue, lined with gnarled Scots pines, is one of the most beautiful in Noord-Holland. Popular with artists and walkers, and very photogenic.
- Diverse Flora and Fauna: From bright green mosses and lichens to woodpeckers, nuthatches and even bats. In autumn, the forest is a paradise for mushroom lovers.
- Estate ’t Oude Hof: In the southern part lies the stately white manor house with its moat. Here you walk along beech avenues, see stinzen plants in bloom in spring and enjoy dishes made with ingredients from the kitchen garden at the adjoining restaurant. Nearby, in a listed barn on the estate, is the film house Cinebergen.
- Walking Routes for Everyone: Follow the 4 km route marked with red arrows or discover your own way along the many narrow paths. Even when it is busy, there are always quiet spots to be found.
- Photogenic in every season: Whether you come for the autumn colours, the mossy mounds or the reflections in the estate's ditches, the Bergerbos is a dream for photographers.
Practical information
- Location: The Bergerbos lies right on the edge of Bergen and is easy to reach from places such as Museum Kranenburgh.
- Accessibility: The paths are easy to walk, but less suitable for pushchairs or wheelchair users because of tree roots and dune slopes.
The Bergerbos is much more than a forest: it is an experience. Whether you come for peace, nature, photography or simply a lovely walk, this historic estate forest has something for everyone. Definitely recommended during your stay in Bergen or the surrounding area!
Furthermore Bergerbos is near the following sights: Cinebergen (±125 m), Museum Kranenburgh (±500 m), Hertenkamp (±750 m), Mini Golf Course de Merelhof (±750 m) & Het Sterkenhuis (±850 m).
